Melbourne, FL, USA (September 21, 2006) -- Liberty Aerospace, Inc., a general aviation aircraft manufacturer based in Melbourne, FL, was honored last night by the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast as the top performer in its class for job creation during the past year. Liberty’s workforce grew 62%, much of it fueled by receipt of the Federal Aviation Administration Production Certificate for the XL2 aircraft in April of this year.
“Congratulations to Liberty Aerospace and its entire team of employees,” stated Lynda Weatherman, CEO of the Economic Development Commission. “Their investment in Brevard County has helped broaden the employment base in a high technology industry.”
Liberty was honored at the EDC’s annual Industry Appreciation Banquet which took place at the Hilton Rialto near the Melbourne International Airport. The celebration was the EDC’s fifteenth anniversary event and was held in conjunction with Florida’s Industry Appreciation Week. Also honored during the celebration were Harris Corporation, DRS Optronics, Rockwell Collins and AuthenTec.
“We are very appreciative of the EDC and all of its efforts to improve the business climate here in the Space Coast,” said Anthony Tiarks, CEO of Liberty Aerospace. “Hopefully we can be a repeat performer next year as our order backlog of aircraft continues to grow and we increase our production capabilities to meet this demand.”
Based in Florida’s Space Coast, Liberty Aerospace Inc. designs and manufactures general aviation aircraft and is the FAA Type 23 Certificate holder for the Liberty XL2. The XL2 aircraft is an IFR certified aircraft that meets the specific requirements of flying schools and clubs while offering the private owner/operator a first-class touring aircraft. Well-known for its carbon fiber fuselage and modular construction, it is also the only production aircraft powered by a piston engine equipped with a full authority digital engine control (FADEC), simplifying power management and providing greatly increased levels of safety, reliability and maintainability. These technological features have allowed Liberty to provide pilots with an aircraft that is extremely fun to fly, and incredibly efficient in the air with minimal maintenance time on the ground.
